It's twisted. It's ironic. The sun is the source of all life. Yet, the sun can also be a major source of damage - to our skin, to our eyes, and to our boards. FYI: UV damage is the number one cause of board yellowing, color fading and foam decay.
What is foam decay? The foam core of your board gives you the "flex" needed to handle different waveshapes. Although you can't see it, the foam core becomes brittle from UV damage. As a result, the density of the foam changes and your board looses its elastic abilities to "snap back" to its original shape. Simply put, the performance of your board is compromised. Over time, the board will feel stiffer and fail to best follow the shape of the wave. Finally, the core of a board with foam decay becomes more prone to compression dings.
You've got SPF 45 for your skin. Sunglasses for your eyes. So… What do you use to protect your board?
is one of the world’s most powerful UV screening treatments of fiberglass. Regular prevents board fading and degradation. It is truly like an “SPF 45” for your surfboard!
